Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an effective smoothing treatment for unwanted facial lines and creases.

Dermal fillers offer a gentle and safe anti-ageing treatment for long-lasting skin renewal. As well as reducing wrinkles and filling in facial lines, they are also effective in restoring loss of volume to enhance lips and cheeks.

Two of the safest and most effective products, both of which are supported by significant clinical studies are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® Ultra and Restylane®. They consist of a soft colourless injectable gel based on stabilised hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to add volume and hydration. As the levels of hyaluronic acid diminish with age, moisture is lost in our skin. By boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, these dermal fillers revitalise the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

As each product has different benefits and effects, your practitioner will decide which one is right for you based upon your individual requirements. The beauty of dermal fillers is that you can be given as much or as little as you need to achieve a natural, fresh and more youthful appearance.

You may choose to have the area slightly numbed first, although this is no longer necessary as most products used in this practice contain in-built anesthetic – making the procedure virtually pain free.

The process takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the number of lines, folds and wrinkles being treated, and you can go straight back to work afterwards.

You may experience some mild post-treatment discomfort, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the treatment site, but this is rare and usually subsides after a few hours or a little longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which parts of the body are suitable for dermal fillers?
The areas that can be treated are all areas of the face, neck, decolletage and hands.
Will I need a skin test first?
No, our dermal fillers do not require a skin test first because they do not contain any animal-derived products.
What do dermal fillers contain and what do they look like?
The products contain hyaluronic acid and water with the appearance of crystal clear gels.
How safe is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is made from non-animal products and is totally natural. It has been used for many years without any serious long-term side effects.
How long does the treatment take?
Dermal fillers take 30-45 minutes depending on the number of lines and wrinkles being treated.
Does it hurt?
Both Restylane and Juvéderm dermal fillers now contain a built-in anaesthetic for a more comfortable experience.
Will there be any after-effects?
Sometimes you may have some mild redness, swelling or bruising following dermal fillers, although this usually subsides within a couple of days, and can be covered with make-up.
What can and can’t I do after the treatment?
You can carry on with your normal daily activities as any redness can be covered with make-up. It is advisable, however, not to expose the treated area to strong sunlight for two to three days post treatment and to leave the area alone to settle for 48 hours.
What is the risk of allergic reactions?
Because Restylane and Juvéderm products both mimic the body’s own hyaluronic acid, the risk of allergic reaction is minimised.
Are dermal fillers just for women?
No, they are also very popular amongst men.
Are dermal fillers suitable for every age and skin type?
Dermal fillers do not have an upper or lower age limit (except for children), but if you have very thin skin you will need different treatment from someone with thicker skin. Our fully qualified practitioner will carefully assess your skin before selecting the correct filler for you.
How long do the results last?
You will probably want a top-up treatment after six to nine months.
Can dermal fillers be used with Botox?
Yes, sometimes the best effect is created when they are used together.
