Skin Peels For Pigmentation

As well as a number of advanced products to promote  younger, smoother and clearer skin, we offer effective skin treatment products for pigmentation problems.

What Is Pigmentation

Pigmentation problems include facial age spots, liver spots, freckles and brown marks. There are various types of products and peels available to treat pigmentation, age spots, and sun damage. However, the products we have found to be most effective for the treatment of these skin problems are the Obagi treatment range which incorporates the Nu Derm product range and Obagi peels. Whether you choose to use the Nu Derm products alone or in combination with a peel, the best product for your skin will ultimately depend on factors such as your skin type, depth of the problem, skin age and skin thickness.

Whatever your skin concerns are Obagi, products have shown to be highly effective in treating most skin care problems. These can range from sun damaged or pigmented skin to general skin ageing and by choosing the correct treatment, it results in healthier clearer, firmer, smoother and more youthful-looking complexion.

There are several routes to achieve maximum skin health and the choice of an appropriate product is largely dependent on the skin problem and the skin type of the individual.

Treatments

Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

For a milder peel we recommend the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance. This peel is very effective in improving the skin’s radiance and texture with the benefits of very little downtime. This peel is ideal for those with busy lives where makeup can be applied straight after and you can return to work or go out for the evening straight away.

You will need a 30 minute appointment for this peel and we recommend a course of 3 peels for best results; 3 weeks apart.

During the procedure the skin will be prepped and the peel applied. The peel is then left on for 10 mins and you may experience a tingling effect on the skin. After the peel is removed a vitamin C serum and sun block are applied. Make up can be worn straight away.

Obagi Nu Derm

The Obagi Nu Derm System, is a course of topically applied products designed to transform your skin by working below the skin surface at the cellular level. These highly effective products are designed to treat a number of common skin problems such as acne, pigmentation, general ageing and sun damage.

Once prescribed these products can be used at home and either on their own or in combination with the Obagi peels which are carried out in the clinic. During your consultation your practitioner will assess your skin and will advise you on the best programme to help obtain maximum improvements in your skin.

Obagi Standard Blue Peel

For a deeper peel we recommend the Obagi Standard Blue Peel. This Trichloroacetic Acid Peel (TCA) is mixed with the patented Obagi blue peel base and effectively removes the surface layers of aged, damaged or pigmented skin.

This peel is carried out as a ‘one off’ single peel.

Prior to having the Obagi Standard Blue Peel you will need to prepare the skin using the Obagi Nu Derm products for a minimum of 6-8 weeks. These products are designed to work safely and effectively in conjunction with the Obagi Blue Peel System.

The Obagi Blue Peel procedure takes less than an hour to perform. Your practitioner will apply the Blue Peel to the area to be treated, which is usually the face, neck, chest or hands. You will experience a mild burning sensation for a few minutes, followed by a bluish tint to your skin that usually washes off within 12-24 hours.

Depending on the strength and depth of the peel, it is normal to have some light swelling. Within 2-3 days your skin will begin to peel and must be allowed to come off at its own pace over the next few days. Your skin should be healed within a week.

Once your skin has finished peeling and is completely recovered, you will notice a visible improvement in your complexion and reduction in your pigmentation. Your skin’s appearance should continue to improve over the next 4-6 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone have skin peels?
Skin peels are not suitable if you have a suntan or if you want to continue having direct sun exposure.
Do I need to prepare my skin first?
With the Blue Peel Radiance no preparation is needed. For the deeper Obagi Standard Blue Peel skin needs to be prepared for at least 4-6 weeks with the Nu Derm home care prior to having the peel.
How many skin peels will I need to treat my pigmentation?
After a consultation of your skin the practitioner will advise whether a peel or the Nu Derm products alone will be the best option for improving the condition of your skin.
What is the down time for a Peel?
For the milder Obaig Blue Peel Radiance there is no down time. For the deeper ‘one-off’ Obagi Standard Blue Peel there will be a down time of 5 -7 days.
What will my skin be like afterwards?

If you tend to develop brown discolouration after injury such as a mild burn, it is advisable to have a test area peeled first before undergoing a full face chemical peel.
Is there anything I need to do or avoid after a Peel?
For the first few weeks after a peel you must avoid direct sunlight onto the skin. After the skin is healed you can carry on with normal activity but daily use of a high factor sunscreen is mandatory.
